BOTO Goes Bang for Yanks; Dog Days Come Early for Mets

Yanks winMets lose.

Brian Roberts is the best runner on the Yankees – just wanted to put that out there.  Phil Hughes gave up three runs and only went five innings on 89 pitches, however, the start felt like a step forward.  He threw strikes…I’ve heard that somewhere, that throwing strikes is key…while giving up only one walk.  He let up two dongs but had a career-high nine strikeouts.  When you challenge the hitters, good things happen spontaneously.  Bottom of the order (get it?  BOTO? TOTO, MOTO, BOTO…COPYRIGHTED, BITCHES!) was big for the Yanks, but when you’re stacked with Nick Swisher, Robbie Cano, and “Hot” Melky Cabrera down there, good things happen spontaneously.

Someone get Lonn “F Me? F YOU!!” Trost into the Kangaroo Court, just for Scheizens and Giggles.  BTW, good to know that Mariano Rivera has been given an important job to pass the time between offseason workouts.

To be positive, the Mets are still two games above .500 and playing a hot pitching team out in the Pacific time zone.  Livan Hernandez has been tough in 3 of 4 May starts.  2-3-4 reached base 8 times.  Ryan Church was let out of Purgatory for three consecutive at-bats.  Dan Murphy is no longer homeless, he has a house-sitting gig that will keep him on his feet.  To be negative, Jose Reyes might hit the DL, which would be a bucket of ice water to a team that is looking for a fire to rally around.   Jerry Manuel said “it was obvious he was struggling”.  Really?  Then why’d you play him?  A DL stint would put them down yet another major leaguer (Alex Cora, his backup, is also on the DL).   In other unfavorable news, Murphy left 7 runners on base hitting behind 2-3-4.  Bobby Valentine is a fan favorite in Japan.  J.J. Putz is trending badly versus career norms in all the important categories.  J.J. Poo, where are u?

Don’t know the details yet, but Scott Schoeneweis’ wife has died.  Whatever the circumstances, it’s a sudden, awful, and tragic loss.
